I think there’s a difference between bringing people into the fold as they become trusted members of the community — which I think is vital — and making development a fully open process. I still contend that it’s hard to maintain a precise direction with consensus-based democracy.

Which is not to say that it’s not possible. I also think adjacent methods, like representative democracy, may be useful. Either way, defined ways to make fast decisions, not get lost in discussion, and make meaningful changes in direction have to be possible.
