There’s a simple solution to Medium turning writing into a commodity: publish on your own site, and syndicate into Medium.

I don’t see it that way, for what it’s worth. I think Medium provides a beautiful interface for discovering new content, where content can stand on its own rather than be subject to the same old power laws. I think that’s a good thing.

I read your piece, and then checked out your site. Job done. If I click on the heart, I’ll see more of your pieces. That’s great for both of us.

They’ve got a great import mechanism and a publish API, so it’s pretty easy to own all of your content, but continue to be discovered here (and anywhere else you want to syndicate).
